Bruce Wayne emekliliğe zorlanan diğer süper kahramanların çoğu gibi, üzerindeki pelerini çıkarıp atalı tam on sene oldu. Orta yaşın getirdiği olumsuzluklarla karşı karşıya kalan huzursuz Bruce Wayne öfkesini yarış arabaları ve içkiyle yatıştırmaktadır. Tabii bunun sonunda, Batman kanun yaptırımının hedefi ve perişan Gotham City'nin yeni umudu haline gelir. Carrie isimli genç bir kız Robin'in yerine geçer ve sonunda Batman'i Mutantların liderinin korkunç saldırısından kurtarır. Yeni bir yardımcıyla güçlenen ve belirli bir amacı olduğu için yeniden enerji toplayan Kara Şövalye Gotham'ı eski ve yeni düşmanlarından korumak için geri dönmüştür...
