Doposud se o největší vzrušení v životě obyvatel pokojného a uzavřeného předměstí Liverpoolu staraly občasné nevěry, manželské hádky a divočejší rozvody. Bylo to prostě poklidné místo, jako stvořené pro rodinný život. Ale tohle všechno se teď změní. Do zdejších ztichlých vánočních ulic totiž vtrhne komando po zuby ozbrojených příslušníků speciálních jednotek. Maskovaní vojáci s povolením zabíjet oblehnou jednu z budov, v níž žijí imigranti a rozkaz zní: okamžitě zastřelit každého, kdo vyjde z domu. Až příliš brzy je jasné, že nejde o plané hrozby. Ale ani první prolitá krev a šířící se hysterie nemůže zastavit svobodnou matku Beth. Zjistila totiž, že její dcera Jodie zůstala někde venku, kam utekla poté, co se s matkou pohádala. A Beth udělá cokoli proto, aby svoje jediné dítě zachránila. Jenže netuší, co všechno se vlastně za dveřmi vedoucími ven skrývá.
